FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) 3
13. What about security?
The telephone connection and Wi-Fi router are the responsibility of the Council / hall and should be installed in a locked
cupboard or store. The other equipment needs to be stored in a secure location at the hall e.g. in a locked cupboard, store or
computer desk. The laptop can be taken home by the administrator or any other responsible person agreed by the Hall
Committee if preferred.
14. Who can be a hall volunteer?
A responsible adult will need to volunteer to be the designated Administrator. This may be the Bookings Secretary but not necessarily. Anyone over 12 can volunteer to act as mentors. Training for both roles will be given.
15. How many public sessions should there be in a Village Hall?
A minimum of 4 hours a week, preferably split between daytime and evening sessions. However these could happen at the same time as other activities in the hall, for instance the computer could be available at the same time as a lunch club, youth club etc.
16. Should a charge be made for Internet usage?
The public access sessions should be available at no cost as the purpose of these is to make the Internet accessible to those on low incomes. However you may ask for a donation or sell refreshments to cover costs and you can charge for prints or photocopies.
It’s up to the hall’s committee how much private hirers and groups are charged for using the Internet connection and/or equipment.
